I’m 400 pages into my 963-page edition of Anna Karenina, and as much as I’m still enjoying it, this part has become a bit of a sleeping aid!

Each evening I read a chapter (only 3 or 4 pages) of Levin thinking hard about European farm machinery, how to get the best out of peasants farming his land (can be patronising), the recent end to serfdom, and how much he feels connected to the land and his own hard work.

All interesting, but apparently not enough to keep me awake. I figure at this rate, it’ll take me 6 months to finish.
