I was surprised with the vitriol in the Wired article about Sanderson, but even more surprising was the divisiveness on this subreddit regarding it. So many people just seem to genuinely hate him for reasons I can’t ascertain.
You don’t like his writing or his books? That’s ok, we can have differences of opinion. The number of people that actively loved the article and wanted him knocked down a few pegs was baffling though, it’s almost like the people who don’t like his books take his popularity personally. They see him as ruining their favorite genre or something, which I don’t understand because it’s not like he’s dissuading the authors they love from writing.
One common theme I kept seeing come through was his religion. He’s Mormon. Fine, whatever, I’m atheist. Do people really just think that someone being born into a religion they disagree with makes them inherently bad people no matter what they do? Seriously confused.
Edit: Ok, solved. He’s a Mormon. Thanks guys.
