Just a thought of mine, and I wanted to see what people's take on that was. Personally I love having physical books. I have my library and will continue adding to my collection (I have this little tradition when I travel of going to whatever bookstore the airport has and buying a book). However, it becomes cumbersome when I am traveling or whatnot to have to bring my copy with me if I want to read. Especially when I am currently going through something massive that takes a ton of space and is quite heavy.

Wouldn't it make sense to get a copy of the book as an eBook if you buy a physical copy? Or at the very least get some sort of discount or bundled version where you get both for less than buying them individually.

What do you think of this?

edit: I think a way to handle this would be a 3rd party software that is not tied to any publisher or retailer specifically (or have infrastructure in place where other retailers/publishers can take advantage of the service) where you have a unified digital library that publishers can partner with to sell their digital version in. The publisher then has the power to sell the digital copies how they see fit, and retailers could bundle these as they see fit as well.

I think Amazon already has the infrastructure in place with Kindle, it just needs to be made a separate entity from Amazon for this to work, so retailers and publishers other than Amazon can take advantage of the digital library solution in place.

edit2: Some people seem to have just read the title, yes it would be ideal if buying the physical copy granted you access to a digital one for free, but as we know we don't live in an ideal world and is why I mentioned that an alternative could be to bundle both for a lower price than buying both individually. For a subreddit about books many of you don't seem to be reading.
