$24.50 round trip. $5 parking. Versus $6 in gas, $4 parking, and $5 fare. I mean it’s not even close. And I get to come and leave whenever I want.
If I get a monthly pass, that’s still $20 a day for every work week of a month. What the fuck? If I get monthly passes for the T and parking, I can get the cost down to about $12.50 a day.
With my employers free parking, it’s $10 in gas.
Is the only purpose of the commuter rail not to be an economical transit alternative? Why is this shit so expensive? It’s not even as expensive as it used to be when considering inflation.
Edit: $5 was the T parking, not my employee subsidized parking. Which is completely free, and that’s the separate scenario I listed when I said if I drive all the way in. Parking + T is cheaper than parking + commuter rail unrelated to my job subsidizing parking.
Also, to everyone saying bUt mAiNtEnAnCe, virtually everyone in zone 8 will already own a car. AAA released a study this year saying the cost of maintenance and repairs are $0.09 cents per mile. That makes sense, that’d be $18,000 over the life of a car. So yes, it’s definitely still cheaper.
