What's so great about The Harp? Why not go to some other bar?

I live right near there, and there are bars down the street that don't have any line at all.

There is no restaurant in the world worth waiting in that line for.

Don’t wait in line and don’t pay cover (unless live band). Life is too short, there’s a bunch of other bars

Yikes. This whole club mentality is so strange. Waaay back when...I did it for a very short time (under age) and just quickly realized that it was just a ploy to separate me from my money with a cover charge (for no reason) and expensive drinks.

The fact that there are older (30+) people in line, just makes me think this is just a tourist trap.

There are so many great cheap places to have fun and create good times, there is never a reason to pay cover....unless there is a known band playing a secret show. Otherwise - take a pass. it is never worth it.

I have never gone to a ticketed bar event that was worth the money.

Why are so many in line at this spot? Is there a free drink special? What makes this bar something more special than the other billion Boston bars?

How's the food here?

Was thinking the exact same thing. I have a picture of me and a couple friends dressed up outside the harp from 15 years ago and you couldn’t catch me dead there now

Think that’s crazy? Go check it out during a Bills game. That’s where all the Bills fans gather to watch games. It’s total mayhem.

I dunno man. Maybe I’ve just always been an old lady, but me and most of my friends have never given a shit if a bar is crowded or nah. As long as I’m with my friends I’ll do anything. I’ll stand in a dumbass line for an hour and make it fun, but I’d rather actually be chilling inside where it’s warm and I have a drink in my hand

notclientfacing t1_iudedkc wrote

You’re not waiting in line because the bar is awesome, you’re waiting in line because you think you have a shot of going home with bodycon dress Tinkerbell (even though you’re just gonna get sloppy, Uber home, and order late night Chinese food)

TheRedGiant77 t1_iudg06r wrote

It sure is. There’s actually 2 Bills bars, the other is the Bleacher Bar at Fenway. They’ll truck in kegs of Labatt Blue and have Buffalo food events at these games and they’re always packed.

A whole comment thread of negativity because its not their cup of tea. It makes me smile that people are out and having fun again. 3 years of isolation makes me appreciate these human moments more

Right? Like what's wrong with saying "not my scene, but hope those folks have fun"? Which was my first thought... because I'm an old lady at heart 😅

SkiingAway t1_iuehb22 wrote

Eh, unlike NYC, the commuter rail doesn't run late enough to use for a night out.

At least for the major lines, LIRR's basically 24/7, and NJT/Metro North have the last train of the night after 1AM and resume by around 5AM.

The St Paddy’s one is actually kinda necessary if you plan on hitting the bars all day. Like all the major 20-30 year old bars require the wristband to get in if I remember correctly

1

devAcc123 t1_iufeim6 wrote

The LIRR is so funny. Last train is usually like 240 or the next one is like 425 right after the bars close. Was always a tough decision, the 430 one is never the correct move lol
