I walk, all hours, it’s safe. Just don’t engage with anyone, ever. No matter what they’re calling after you for. You didn’t drop anything (a common one to get your attention), you don’t have cash for anyone anyway so why bother stopping, and you don’t owe anyone an answer to “ma’am can I ask you a question”. Just keep walking. Head up and alert. You’ll be fine.

Lived here twenty plus years. Always feel safe at night, even walking through the commons after dark (early winter evenings). Just be alert and walk confidently which is good advice anywhere, but mainly as insurance.

It's generally fine, though there are some areas that are not great at night. Where are you staying/heading?

I didn't feel unsafe at all downtown at night, but I'm also a big guy.

Honestly? I feel safe in most cities. And Boston? Never had a problem. Obviously, stuff happens sometimes. Nothing anyone online can guarantee won't happen. But, I've never had a problem and I've lived in Boston or the Boston burbs for 25 years. And, my kids go out in Boston and they've never had a problem.

Daytime, dinner, coffee fine - then go to bed at 11 like the rest of the city and you will stay safe!

The day destroys the night

The night divides the day
