Before this past month, I have never seen a dog in a grocery store. In the past month, I have seen dogs in the Chelsea and Somerville Market Baskets on 4 separate occasions. I am severely allergic to dogs, so this really bothers me. Not to mention that it is not very sanitary. I completely understand service dogs, obviously, however, these were very clearly not service dogs (barking, pulling their owners, etc). How selfish. Has anyone else had a similar experience or do I just chose the wrong times to go to the grocery store?

*Edit: I don’t hate dogs or animals at all. Some of my friends have dogs and while they love their dogs, they are respectful and don’t bring them to places like coffee shops, grocery stores, etc that are either not meant for dogs or specifically prohibit non-service animals. Dogs don’t need to travel everywhere with their owners. Most will not die if they go an hour without their owner.

I also totally get why employees of said stores are often hesitant to say anything. They either don’t get paid enough to want to deal with the situation, or understandably don’t want to risk violating the ADA and bringing about a lawsuit on themselves or their employer.
