**EDIT cuz I'm an idiot: title should read <50k, LESS THAN, not greater. Thx :)

I've seen so many posts about people making upwards of 100k asking if they can live in the Boston area... No disrespect but I'm a little tired of all that. The question on my mind is how do people NOT making that much per year make it work?

Middle, lower, working class incomes, those in poverty... how do folks get by? I'm legitimately curious, is it a matter luck in knowing the right landlord? Living in a home owned by your great grandmother that has been rent controlled since 1975? Benefitting from some kind of federal, state, or city assistance program? Living with +20 people in a tiny apartment?

Even in working class, "low income" neighborhoods, it seems like rent is through the roof. Yet plenty of these neighborhoods exist, along with the families and folks who make it work one way or another. How?

This has been on my mind for a while, and not just in Boston but everywhere... Anecdotes are welcome, though I'd love some high level insight or lived experience tales! Thanks, and all the best to those of you who are making it work, and/or struggling to do so!
