It’s entirely feasible. There are medicines that eliminate the risk of transmission. The challenge is getting at risk populations to take them

considering the long latent period of HIV, how is this even possible?

newly infected people can go there and be undetected for years.

Right. Because infected people don't travel.

Everyone wants to eradicate HIV/AIDS. And it's a silly goal to set for a country that size. There's absolutely no way they are going to be the first country in the world to eradicate it

America (maybe it was Britain, but I'm pretty sure it was one of those two) decided to do that for smallpox, and I believe we're bigger than Britain, and pretty much succeeded in that goal.

I'm not saying they shouldn't try. I'm saying that the announcement is stupid, both because it's what's everyone wants to do, and because they are never going to be the first country to do so.

I don't know where you're from, but the first country to officially eradicate smallpox was Iceland, and they are certainly not bigger than Britain.

Here's the thing. The only way England can be the first country in the world to eradicate HIV is if they invent the vaccine/cure; they force people to get it; and they keep it to themselves. Anything short of being willing to do that and this announcement is nonsensical.
