Great topic and interesting (but kind of expected) results, but I think you should use points instead of score. A match has a score but points are awarded for it.

Which team advanced with 3 points and when?

Yeah dang, you are right, should have done points, that would have made it more clear.

Chile in Group B, 1998. Need a lot of ties to make it happen.
Italy 7, Chile 3, Austria and Cameroon with 2.

I thought it's some goal difference shenanigan but that makes more sense. Chile tying with everyone, Italy beating everyone and Austria tying with Cameroon.
