Kind of surprised Taiwan didn't make the cut. I thought they were about the same level as Japan, Hong Kong, and Korea.

Taiwan is not a UN member and even if they were they would fare lower than JP, SK, SG, and HK. They are more Thailand's level.

Taiwan's HDI is 0.916 which would be above France, but under Japan and South Korea.
Taiwan is tied with Austria.

That doesn't make you a more reliable source... the Taiwan government provides you with their data and the formula is there for you to check and scrutinized.
