They hired a lot more than they laid off, so just doing layoffs is misleading. If the goal is to have people understand tech employment dynamics, this is not an effective visualization.

100% agreed with this. The only people panicking are the ones who aren't in the tech industry. Even laid off workers will find another gig, it probably just won't be for a FAANG company.
Also, there is still an error in the underlying data (aside from it just being misleading).

The data is not complete or comprehensive, just a tentative sizing if the issue.
170k plus laid offs in 12 months is significant enough to understand the magnitude of the issue.
