That plate had lorne sausage, hagis and potato cake, which you don't normally find on an English breakfast. Both the lorne sausage and hagis are very Scottish. The potato cake can be found in northern England and Ireland in addition to Scotland.

But.. to be properly authentic as a Scottish breakfast, the sausages should be Lorne sausages

Full Scottish breakfast usually has slices of haggis, lorne (square) sausage and tattie scone. I've also noticed our black pudding is sometimes a bit different to the ones you get in England.

We also sometimes have fried fruit pudding or fruit dumpling. Fruit pudding is like a suet sausage with currants and stuff in it and fruit dumpling is more like a cake.

To be fair, as someone who likes a full English, that looks pretty damn spectacular!

This makes me so homesick I just looked up where I can order lorne sausage, haggis, fruit pudding and Stornoway black pudding online for home delivery. I was so happy to find I can get several breakfasts worth for under Ā£30 only to get to check out and find they have a Ā£75 minimum order for home delivery. Sad now :( I miss just being able to go to the nearest corner shop for a breakfast pack on a Sunday morning.

purrcthrowa t1_iy0nqn9 wrote

That looks spectacularly good, and untainted by hash browns that seem to have infiltrated themselves in their southern counterpart.

Ironic, really, since my theory is that hash browns were first imported into England, and hence the Full English, through the agency of the well known Scot, Ronald MacDonald.

You can get Lorne sausage and haggis in most big supermarkets if you're in England. Fruit pudding and stornoway black you'll still struggle with tbf, but you could make fruit pudding yourself if you fancy.

Haggis is also pretty versatile as well.

I've had it the traditional style, with the peppercorn sauce, neeps and all.

I've also had it rolled in oats and baked as well.

There's always the possibility of it being used as stuffing for cornish hens too.

Haggis and Potato Scone. No toast. Should also be streaky bacon not back "bacon" which is basically thinly sliced gammon and not bacon at all. But that seems to be a fight thats been lost over the years.

1

EduinBrutus t1_iy3cmpd wrote

Thats the wrong bacon.

A Scottish breakfast should be using streaky bacon.

I guess you could probably get away with ayrshire bacon.

But this thinly sliced gammon the English call bacon is not right.
