When did City utilities start employing squirrels? Got to admit it's a bit genius

No joke an army of squirrels trained to do this would probably prevent a lot of blackouts in heavy snows

Its not the snow that gets you, its the ice and wind. Squirrels love to chew on cable.

Ya I work in the industry and our number one enemy is the squirrels

Unfortunately they are also their own worst enemy
The second is the electricity.

That is a telephone cable btw not power, and squirrels are the cause of a huge amount of problems. If you look at the very beginning of the clip you will see a black cylinder. That is a closure meant to protect the wires from the elements. The problem is the squirrels love to make those things home. I’ve climbed many poles to open those things and have them jump out at me.
I have a love hate relationship with squirrels. I love them because they have made me a lot of money in overtime, I hate them because they have been the reason I have been forced to work a lot of overtime.

Unfortunately, squirrels cause something like 8% of all blackouts in the US, so it's the least they could do.

Putting nut dispensers on poles doesn't seem so crazy anymore, huh?
