EDIT: I fixed the keyboard issue, and CarPlay is working fine minus the response time being just a little slow. This phone is honestly growing on me. I think I’ll get an iPhone again next time I get a new phone. I greatly appreciate the advice I’ve received. It wasn’t my intention to take a dump on Apple, I honestly just wanted advice.
As you can see from the title, I was a Samsung user (around 5 years using Samsung) and I just got an iPhone 14 plus after losing my S21 in a mass shooting in New Orleans. I needed a new phone quick since I needed to drive back to Texas, so I decided to try something new.
I am pretty disappointed, and it’s only been a few days. Here are just a few of my grievances (which I hope you more experienced iPhone users can help me find solutions for)

Less access to e v e r y t h i n g. I knew before getting my iPhone that this would be a part of the experience, but I didn’t realize how bad it would be. For example, there are less apps you can use, and they are more premium than what is available on Google Play. I downloaded Alarmy because none of the default alarm tones will wake me up. I’d be fine with the “Opening” tone but I can’t even use it (???) Alarmy is OK, but you need to pay a $7/mo subscription just to get the same features that my old alarm app had for a one-time $5 purchase.

Less customization: again, I knew this would be a thing. I just didn’t know it would be this bad. You can’t even set your own ringtone unless you want to pick from a limited selection from iTunes for money. You can’t set notification sounds, you can’t set custom alarm tones, you can’t edit your icons (or maybe you can, I don’t know yet)

CarPlay: don’t even get me started here. I have a 2022 Hyundai Elantra, which comes with both Android Auto and CarPlay. The only issue I have EVER had with android auto is disconnecting, but I live near a military fort so that is to be expected sometimes. CarPlay is a disaster. I can barely get Siri to set my destination, whether it’s Google Maps or Maps. It doesn’t automatically resume my music when I start my car (I use YouTube music and I’m not going to switch). You can’t even use your fingers to zoom out on the map display. It also has disconnection issues but that is to be expected. The ONLY thing CarPlay has over Android Auto is the fact that you can still open google maps or maps on your phone while being connected to the car. And this is just a personal preference, but I don’t like the look of the interface. It looks… childish? To be completely fair, my car is 5k miles past due for servicing, and CarPlay may need to be updated.

Display and texting: I’m not going to lie, I miss my 120hz display. You can really feel the difference between 90 and 120. The keyboard is also way to slow and delayed. I text way to fast for it. Samsung had no delay like this. Autocorrect shouldn’t be the reason for this either, because I used autocorrect on my s21.

Siri is dumber: that’s really all there is to it. She just isn’t as smart as google assistant.
Thats about it for me. Overall, I do like my iPhone. It has a nice, luxurious feel to it. It’s fast. It has that beautiful Retina display where you can’t even see the pixels no matter how hard you try. I like the sounds it has (even if they are limited and all the alarm tones are bad). I love how it syncs with my iPad Pro. While the apps are limited, it is easier to find quality ones. I appreciate the extra security that comes with having an iPhone. I love the health oriented features that it comes with. It makes me feel cared for. Obviously it’s nice to have those iPhone exclusive things (iMessage, FaceTime, etc). I love apple products. I have my 2018 iPad Pro and I once had a 2011 MacBook Pro that worked very well for 7 years.
I know it’s on me to do more research before making such a big purchase. It just sucks that this luxury product has me going “you’ve got to be kidding me” pretty often. Maybe iPhones are just not for me. I hope y’all can give me suggestions so that I can get the most out of my iPhone; I’m doing to have this thing for a while.
