What if one chooses to do it under the self-service program? I’m assuming that message wouldn’t appear then?

If you order trough self service repair you have to call apple suport later and have them pair the new part with the phone.

I remember there was a story about someone going through that program. Apple basically shipped them ALL the necessary equipment to make sure everything is programmed correctly.
