You don’t have to cover the lens to provide protection from direct contact or impact. Almost every case I find online leaves a giant open square.

Because as long as you have a raised lip around the camera bump, you are very unlikely to break it from a drop. So no need to spend extra money making a fully covered case.

It’s more trouble than it’s worth when designing a case.
As someone else said, as long as the case has a raised lip around the camera unit, that’s really all that’s needed in general.

Covering the lenses would make the camera bump even bigger and could reduce photo and video quality and focusing accuracy.
