Combo of FaceTime + wireless is what’s ‘possible’ for tripping heat sensor.

So HERE’s my phone that needed a 100-0-100 recalibration cycling because it was dying w/~18% left. You can see 3 small red bars on the left, each is 15mins, so it shows it shutdown at ~12:45am w/18% remaining, while I was using it in that 12-1am period for ~1/2hr as shown by the blue SOT bar below it. Then while shutdown and charging, no graph info recorded until I restarted using it at ~6am (but was probably fully charged by ~4-5am), as evidenced by the tiny blue SOT bar underneath it. Then on the far right, you can the last red bar disappear in the 11pm-12am range, but the blue SOT bar shows 15mins of use that hour, so it probably shutdown at 11:15pm.

Hold on so what do you think has happened with mine?

Does it show you when it died and when I put it on to charge?

Dude, it’s all there

Ah so does that green line below the graph show that it was plugged in to charge?

So if i woke up and were to go on my phone say 3am when it was restarting what would it say, is it still charging?

ilreppans t1_j5qlz8r wrote

Yes the green lines and faint green sections above them indicate plug-in periods. Only you doing something on the phone will restart it. If you left it alone till 11am then your graph would look like mine shutdown ~1am; no info 1-11am, then 100% when restarted at 11am.

If you restarted at 3am it might not even turn on (may still be zero batt), or might have been 10-30% and charging - IDK when it decided to start charging.

samwood2809 OP t1_j5qmhj9 wrote

So it will restart the phone, coz how would I get onto my phone if it was shut down, or do you mean restart the graph?

Ah okay so when you go on it the graph restarts?

I think it was probs on 10-30% because it still said notifications were at that time period on my screen time settings and I definitely plugged it at 1 coz otherwise how would it be charged when I woke up if I had plugged it in at 12 and it died at 12:43 as shown on graph?

ilreppans t1_j5qp13c wrote

Yeah mostly mean restart the graphs, the phone will wake and go to standby/locked screen when it decides it has enough juice, but won’t restart batt graphs until you login.

Back to the beginning, only 2 reasons I’ve seen where you plug-in but doesn’t charge is the heat problem and iOS16 bugs.

samwood2809 OP t1_j5qpu6x wrote

Yeah thought you meant the phone restarts

It was fully charged by morning though which I don’t understand if it wasn’t charging properly

I think it was on standby most the night because it said on my screen time notifications still came through

if i plugged it in at 5 after it had ran out it would show it down at the bottom and in red but it’s not it’s in yellow and nearly at 100%

Yeah it died at 12:54am precisely coz that’s when the FaceTime ended

Thank you for this information by the way very interesting and helpful

samwood2809 OP t1_j5qmoo4 wrote

Unless I re adjusted it and put it on to charge at 5 am does that look possible that it could have been put on to charge at 5 am or not coz of the abrupt and immediate line not a gradual one building the charge up

samwood2809 OP t1_j5qfzs8 wrote

Oh right so it shut down when u were using it?

Thing is with mine it doesn’t say it was fully charged til like 6 am, if I plugged in at 1am why’s it took so long to charge, and at 5am even if it did start charging then, it doesn’t gradually build up it goes up quite immediately in the yellow

How does the blue sot bar indicate it’s fully charged?

1

ilreppans t1_j5qjzep wrote

Yes mine shutdown while using

Technically you took the screenshot at 8:23 and the ‘last charged to 100%’ says ‘1hr ago’ so fully charged ~7:23, not 6am.

It should have been charging starting at 12am while you were FaceTiming, so who knows when it decided to start charging while it was shutdown 3,4,5 am?. Early version iOS gremlins, IDK. (Graph say plug-in at 12 not 1, IDK why the discrepancy, no offense, but I trust the graph more for that info).

Blue bar only shows when I started using it, ie that’s first point of restart and when the batt graphs started recording again, as I said “probably fully charged by ~4-5am” which means I’m guessing because the batt graphs don’t record info between shutdown and restart.

1

samwood2809 OP t1_j5qlmst wrote

Ah right weird how it was fully charged at 5 am,

So does my graph show to u when my phone died?

What’s a batt graph, ah so it restarts when u first go on it, is that the graph that restarts or the actual phone. So if i were to wake up and go on my phone whilst it’s on shut down would it just say it’s dead.

1

ilreppans t1_j5qnkpc wrote

It wasn’t fully charged at 5am, I can see the power still increasing even in the 6-7am period

I circled where it died above.

The phone should be in standby - On, but in this rare case following a shutdown, not recording batt graph info. It will force you to manually enter a password… and that’s the point the battery graph will start recording again.

1

samwood2809 OP t1_j5qpfij wrote

Ah right so you reckon maybe I plugged in at 5?

Yeah so just enter my password for my phone and then once I’ve unlocked my phone the battery info starts recording again. I thought that was standby when ur phone just needs a password to get on, like usual every morning when I wake up grab my phone and put my password in and iPhones unlocked thought that was standby

samwood2809 OP t1_j5qpjvp wrote

When you say shut down do you mean the phone runs out of battery? That happened just before 1am about 12:45 am like stated on your graph yes

1

samwood2809 OP t1_j5u7iow wrote

To you, does it look like my phone died at 12:53am?

ilreppans t1_j5vo1e4 wrote

Yeah somewhere between 12:45 and 1:15

Circles the spot with my hand written notes on an earlier attachment - ‘shutdown ~1am’.

1

samwood2809 OP t1_j5vztry wrote

Yeah by shutdown does that mean battery died? And is that approximately 1am is there a way to see the precise time when your phone dies not just for this day id like to see if for others? Thank you

1

ilreppans t1_j5wxzfi wrote

Yes batt died and phone shut off by itself. I don’t of a precise way to tell when, except if you are using at time when it does it it.
