This is not entirely accurate. The ferry runs every 20 minutes until 11pm on the weekdays and until midnight on Fridays/Saturdays. And there are buses that get you straight to Port Authority. They come quite often during commute times. I've never encountered flooding issues in Port Imperial.

Just to be clear, I think you're talking about the ferry to midtown - the ferries to other parts of Manhattan only operate for brief windows in the early morning and early evening.
