Best way to get to MetLife with my rural parents?

I’m headed to the Jets/Dolphins game with my parents on Sunday. They’re in their 60s but in good shape. They’re definitely not used to moving at a fast pace though. What’s the best way to get there from the heights?

  1. Drive and park-how’s parking? PITA to get out or in? Could tailgate.
  2. Uber-convenient but probably expensive.
  3. Bus-least amount of walking but requires a transfer
  4. Train- this leaves from Hoboken and directly goes to MetLife? How is it to take? A long wait after the game?

Super appreciate any help you guys can give me!

The train from Hoboken requires a stop at Secaucus, you might be waiting a long while for the transfer, I waited a good 40 minutes after the game the other week.

Lyft to the game is usually only $20-25

Never taken the bus there

Have you ever driven to/from a sporting event in your life? Come on, use some common sense.

If you can, I’d drive and purchase a parking pass in advance. Also, the Dolphins just played on Thursday. Steelers this Sunday.

Hey so couple of things:

If you drive to the game you need to buy a parking pass in advance and I would go early as it does get crowded fast with tailgaters and exiting after is a fun game of Mario kart

Uber would be convenient but depending on from where yea it would be expensive and after the game good luck getting one to get out

Not sure much about the bus

For train there is a transfer at Secaucus junction that goes straight to the stadium takes roughly 20-25 min and leaves roughly every 15-20. Wait after the game just depends to be fair I had lines super short cause I left with a few min left in the game and some where it's going to be a bit since the trains fill fast

Honestly depsite that the train to me is the best option but hopefully this helps a bit

Just an FYI I’m assuming you mean Sunday, October 9th because the Jets are on the road tomorrow. Giants play the bears at MetLife tomorrow.

  1. If you want to park in the lots next to the stadium you’ll need to buy a parking pass. There are 2 types…General Admission which is the outer parking lots and premium parking which are the lots right next to the stadium. Without a parking pass you’ll have to park at one of the outer “satellite” parking lots. Parking passes will run you anywhere from $20 to $100 and can be easily purchased on StubHub, Ticketmaster, etc…

You could also attempt to park in the American Dream Mall Parking garage. Not sure how much it costs but it’s easily walkable to the stadium.

  1. Convenient going to the game and drops you off by the Verizon & SAP Gates. Leaving May be an issue. Always a long line of car service/Uber pickup after the game

  2. never took the bus but it drops you off right next to the stadium

  3. train is also super convenient and drops you off next to the stadium but there are hoards of people after the game trying to get on that thing could be an issue

Not a typo. Rural means I grew up across from a cow farm and they have a hard time in more urban areas. And I have driven before and didn’t enjoy it, but it might be the easiest way. You seem to be upset about something, and I honestly hope you have a much better day. Thanks for giving me the info, it’s helpful.

I went to a game last year from downtown and took an Uber and the train back. Wasn’t too bad.

For Uber I scheduled it the day before in the app. I just checked and it’s giving me a price of $32 for a 10am pickup. Not too bad. Traffics around then was not bad at all.

Train leaves metlife and will be packed. Then goes to Secaucus and you have to transfer from there to Hoboken.

I have Ubered there and back. On the way there, yes convenient and also somewhat expensive, but not awful. I think it was around $30-40 last time.

The way back is miserable though. I would avoid Uber on the way back, it gets really backed up, drivers will cancel, can take upwards of an hour to get a driver, and then with traffic it's another 30-45 minutes back to the Heights, and will go for around $65.

Cheapest - Path to Hoboken and NJ Transit. Last time I did it though leaving kinda sucked and for some reason there were no trains to Hoboken from Secaucus +/- 40 minutes of the end of the game. So you either have to leave early or wait at Secaucus for a while.

I'd put Uber/Driving at the same level, cost aside. When you are sitting in traffic at the end of the game you won't be thinking about cost.

Personally, I'd take the train there from Hoboken to get to the game and then on the way back take the train to Secaucus and then Uber from there.
