The city just feels overpopulated for what it is. Like in Boston the amount of cars on the road is congruent with the surroundings (if that makes sense). In Quincy, it’s just a barrage of cars especially on Newport avenue which is STILL under construction. Part of me thinks they should widen Newport Ave but that would most likely do nothing
Yeah that makes sense. It’s a city but EVERYONE drives and doesn’t use public transportation as much as Boston. The intersection of Newport and Beale is always a mess
Public transportation is a JOKE!
Public works depts are just as big of a joke as public transportation. Half-assed efforts expecting meaningful results.
Driving through Quincy is my least favorite part of any trip to the South Shore. 3A sucks a giant bag of dongs.

Outside of the red line, the public transit sucks in Quincy. You need a car if you wanna go anywhere that’s not Hancock St lol.
It is a nice, affordable place to live and attracts many people. We love living here. Hopefully infrastructure improves to meet the demand!

the T is for getting you to boston, not around town.
I grew up in Quincy. Left in the late 80s but my family lived there until a few years ago. Its basically an extension of Boston now and so much busier and more crowded than when I lived there.
Newport Ave has always been a racetrack. So was the boulevard along the beach. There used to be state police presence and strictly enforced speed limits along the beach but I've not seen that in years. But it does feel much crazier now on those roads than in the past. And coupled with really bad driving in Hancock Street and Beale Street is a zoo, with people running lights, pulling u-turns in the middle of busy moving traffic, pedestrians crossing against lights, etc.
West Quincy seems a little quieter.
Montclair and North Quincy (my old haunts), including Billings Rd, East/West Squantum, around the T station, are a challenge to driving without going postal.
It's a city built exclusively for cars that has reached a population density at which it is no longer physically possible for people to drive everywhere. If you widen the roads you're just going to encourage more people to drive and make the city more unpleasant to be in. Quincy has a big advantage being on the red line, but has really dropped the ball by not providing anything close to adequate bus service or pedestrian/bike infrastructure.
All the bike lanes, may have something th do with the gridlock

Your first sentence is correct. Quincy has suburban infrastructure but urban needs. It is also the bottleneck through which all travel coming from south of Boston must pass.
