Backstory: My barber charges $70 for a haircut. On top of that I tip him $30 rounding it to $100 for a haircut. Yesterday, I got a haircut and he casually slipped in saying “other people are tipping more and it’s been really hard to get back because of covid.”
Now I used to tip him 100% ($140) until December 2021 because I understood the business is down because of Covid and no fault of his own.
I was pleasantly baffled that he was expecting more tip when I am already tipping him 40%. Additionally, he already charges a premium rate for a haircut which got me thinking is a tip even warranted when haircut price might hopefully cover their expenses.
How would you deal with this?
