MA Connector Care vs Vermont

Howdy. The family is considering a move to VT.
I’m self-employed and get insurance for our 3 person family through Connector Care (silver). Though the system overall is a PITA, no more so than past experience with employer insurance. I do appreciate that as my income fluctuates I can update on the MA Health Connector site and my subsidy changes along with my income.

Does anyone have experience with Vermont’s system coming to or from MA? How does the state’s subsidy compare?
How easy is it to deal with system as a whole?

My brother is a Burlington resident and has the Vermont equivalent of MassHealth. I am a MassHealth recipient. My brother has had significantly less issues with VT healthcare than I have had with MassHealth, has received top quality care and had a very fast turnaround with seeing specialists and tbh I’m jealous of his overall experience. If you can secure healthcare there I would say 100% go for it

You should be able to see the chart for the subsidy. You’d definitely be better off posting in a Vermont sub. Maybe they can’t compare to MA but could tell you what they pay and how it works.

Where In VT are you considering moving to? That makes a big difference as to the availability of health care (not health insurance, but the care itself)

MassHealth is amazing as long as you can find a doctor that takes it. During covid the spouse lost their job, my income went down and we moved to a little higher income town - the child was put on MassHealth. Covered every single thing, not one cent of payment.

I lived in Vermont for 12 years and had Green Mountain Care if it's still called that.

I would say Ma Vs. VT on Health Care ;

Vermont's health system is much better and covers more for higher incomes than Massachusetts.Vermont covers more and for more people in the lower middle classes whereas MassHealth is more for in and around the poverty line but Vermont does more for the people inbetween poverty and upper middleclass ,so that's the VT advantage.

But Vermont has frankly shitty doctors and crappy hospitals and overall treatment is poor compared to Mass.Vermont Doctor quality is a nightmare ,if you have any real health issues stay in Massachusetts for sure,unless you are super healthy don't trust your care to imcompetent VT doc's.Mass doc's and hospitals and overall healthcare is light years ahead of Vermont!!

Depends what you mean by "civilized." that's the part of eastern Vermont I'm least familiar with, but I do know they don't have an especially large hospital. Also gonna throw it out there and say if it's like most of Vermont, many of the providers are not accepting new patients. Brattleboro is close to Mass at least, you have Western Mass as a backup
