This needs to be a standard on all roads.

Or you do it like the rest of the world and keep track of something the car in front passes by, start counting and stop counting when you pass that spot. If it's less than two seconds, you're too close. Bonus, it adapts for speed, you're literally counting down potential reaction time.

Do people not learn that in driving school in the US?

In Switzerland we still have markers sometimes, but they act as reminders. Counting is still safer.

Have a good one. Stay safe.

Yep this should be standard. Here in the UK, it was traditional to pick a marker, like a sign for example and you would say a phrase. You'd start it as the vehicle in front passed the sign and if you got to it before finishing the phrase, you were too close.... judging attitudes to raid safety nowadays, I think this is largely forgotten.

The phrase was "only a fool breaks the two second rule".... Simple and effective.

You mean maintaining a constant approximate-second count and doing a stopping distance-to-second conversion in your head isn’t good enough for you lot?

You're not going to get any pull-along by the truck's wind if you stay more than a few feet back. You gotta nudge right up to that bumper.

The same could be said for the dots. They do provide some use as I’m sure they make some people aware of safe driving distance, but otherwise, they’re not changing anyone’s habits.

And frankly, the two-dot distance looks entirely too large on that road. You’d probably be fine with one.

Distance is meaningless, its 5 seconds the secure "distance".

Unfortunately it’s hard to fix people being lazy. Id argue having the dots would probably have a noteable impact on people driving too close to the car in front of them simply because they don’t have to do the counting. If so, why not implement them?

I saw this in PA. Made a game out of it.

I watch a lot of crash compilations on youtube and the amount of people who are driving directly behind other cars and who are then wondering why they crash is astonishing

Fairly common in Europe, with accompanying vertical traffic signs with pictograms, for example "keep 2 marks visible between you and car in front; in case of rain, keep 3".
