All religious Faith is intellectual dishonesty made into an elite virtue.
It lets them believe whatever they wish to be true. It also lets them believe things that conflict with other Faith beliefs. There is no actual method to accept the claims of holy books or think that any gods exist without that Faith. They can't keep those beliefs private.
