Is it an official Lego set ? I’ve never seen anything like it, the fact that the ground is made of unfixated pieces is unsettling

It is official! The tree is attached to the base firmly. To create the appearance of gravel, the set has you pour 90 loose pieces all around the base of the tree.

I think he's referring to the small black pot on top of the brown wooden base. As a reference, the corners of the pot have sideways rubber tires on the bottom, that actually give it quite a lot of grip

Yea.
Lego has had a line of botanical plant builds aimed at adults for quite some time now.
Given that the line is expanding, I'd think it's doing quite well.
