I am planning to buy a budget monitor. As much as I want an OLED I wouldn't be able to afford that as I am a single parent of two dogs. I saw two models that I liked, Huawei GT 27 and MSI Optix (whatever the model is because it too long). I am tempted to buy Huawei because it is hard to find a 27" 1440p monitor on a budget price but it is a VA panel.

I see a lot of reviewers saying VA panels are really bad for gaming.

What I would use it for:

  • Gaming: Not FPS games, mostly games like RDR, Witcher, and Elden Ring
  • Media consumption
  • Productivity

The MSI Optix is an IPS panel, is 24" 1080, and it also looks good but I see a lot of bleeding and glowing especially on dark scenes.....

It is my first time to buy a monitor, I really saved this money and want to make the most of it, so any advice or opinions regarding whether or not a VA panel or an IPS on a budget would be better. I only have 250-300 USD budget

Have you gamed on any other screen before like a TV even?

VA is fine in general but the dark smearing on lower end models, I personally find distracting as hell. I've felt that way though since going from a CRT TV/monitor to a VA TV.

IPS, doesn't have that smearing problem if you get a decent one You lose contrast though and have to deal with IPS glow/back light bleed..

It's one of those subjective things where some people don't find the smearing distracting whereas others like me, can't stand it.

Both have their positives and negatives, it's just about what trade-offs you are willing to live with.

There's a good video with both side by side.
