For me, one of the most devastating endings I've seen from a film is the ending of "Mysterious Skin" by Gregg Araki. From the powerful melancholic score, >!Neil trying to relieve Brian from his shared trauma, the fact that these characters will never be able to get any justice against their abuser and also, how the last shot implies they are alone in the universe with possibly no afterlife or purpose and to forever suffer from this irreversible scar.!< The movie as a whole is very uncomfortable and emotionally challenging but the ending just further amplify your hatred for what is shown and further reinforce how trauma really destroys your soul. Amazing ending for an amazing movie.
And of course, you have the sad and fucked-up ending of "Grave of The Fireflies", which I really do not need to elaborate cause most of y'all will get it.
