I love this concept in every sort of media, a leader gathering the most exceptional, the best (or the worst) for a suicidal mission or an impossible challenge, not necessarily winning at the end. It's a theme that goes further into the Argonauts or the Seven against Thebes.
It's very romantic in a sort of way, to fight against all odds because the reason is good enough or to prove one's worth, although it can be pushed into a discussion about the lies of said values.
In comic books, it's the basis of groups like the Justice League or the Avengers, or in more recent issues (and mroe adequate to what I mean), Superman forming a version of The Authority to battle Mongul in Warworld. People would say Suicide Squad, but it's not the same if people are forced into the mission as well as the leader.
There's also the cinematic examples: Dirty Dozen, Seven Samurais, The Devil's Brigade, The Magnificent Seven and a bunch of sports movies, and I'm interested in more films with these team.
