What movie that fostered a franchise do you think would have been better left as a stand-alone film?

When I go back and watch Rocky and the original Star Wars, I feel as though the resulting sequels turned two perfect films into something other than what they were, and the experience loses some of their original impact as s result. Are there other franchises that should have been left well enough alone?
