Wow! It definitely earns the classic status that it holds. The sweeping cinematography, the excellent performances (from Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif especially), the tremendous and instantly recognizable score.
My high school history teacher, who taught us a lot about the Arab-Israeli conflict, said that this was his favorite movie. I can see why, as while it's not 100% historically accurate, it's steeped in real history and makes you want to learn more.
One thing I will note is the use of brownface. I understand that it's a product of its time, I'm well aware of hollywood history in that respect, but it's still distracting to me. Like, Alec Guinness didn't do anything egregiously offensive, but I couldn't get around the idea that this is just another British guy with brown makeup on.
That said, it's an excellent film. Definitely an epic of proportions that just aren't made today. What do you think?
