For me it was “Cloud Atlas.” I really hated this movie the first time I watched it. I hadn’t seen Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts” or P.T. Anderson’s “Magnolia” yet, so the idea of an ensemble film that juggles multiple storylines simultaneously was alien to me. I got lost watching “Cloud Atlas”, didn’t understand it and I really despised it because of that. Then a few weeks passed, and I realized I was still thinking about the film. Then I decided I HAD to see it again, so I did, and suddenly it all made sense. I picked up on all the details I missed the first time, I followed the storylines with ease, I noticed the themes of slavery, oppression and predation, I just got it. Now it’s one of my favorite movies.
