This question is inspired by Topher Grace.
‘That 70’s Show’ was a big hit, launching many of the actors into continued popularity beyond the show. When Topher Grace’s character left the show, it rapidly went down hill. With that, you’d think he must have been very popular, and that this would lead to his fan base following along to his movie career. But that didn’t seem to happen.
His first post-70’s Show role was as Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3. While the idea of a dislikable Peter Parker lookalike makes some sense, fans of Venom felt it was not the Eddie Brock they wanted. It was also a bit of an over bloated movie in terms of villains, so overall that debut fell flat.
He never seemed to grab a solid leading man role, with most supporting roles in movies as an unlikeable character. A highlight for me is his role in the underrated ‘Predators’.
It’s crazy to see what seemed like such a well liked tv star to be relegated to these purposefully unlikeable supporting roles in forgettable movies.
