Is The Many Saints of Newark a good movie for someone who hasn’t watched The Sopranos?

I’ve watched a couple episodes of The Sopranos years ago, but it’s too long ago that I’ve probably forgot about it.

I think I’ve heard some negative stuff about this prequel movie by fans, but given that I haven’t really seen the series could I still enjoy the movie?.

I watch all kinds of movies, but I do like gangster movies like Goodfellas, The Departed, American Gangster etc.
