I didn't know if it was good enough as 20th century comedy movies because it sounded older than it really is (even with 23 years). Like I was expecting Buster Keaton and such (he's amazing, though).

Nowadays comedies do not receive that much push up if it doesn't have about three celebrities in it, and even then it's likely they won't get that much publicity. There are many factors, arguably the preference of the audience, lack of success, etc. The last comedy film I can't think of that received an immense amount of atention was The Interview (2014) just because of its controversial theme.

Now, things that made us laugh have varied over time, some of them have become more problematic or they were already questionable during their release, or simply, now seem more annoying than funny, so I'm interested in your opinion on comedies that have not failed at their original intent and maybe even surpassed their time with some cult following.
