I was driving on Friday when I got pulled over by an unmarked police car for 2 tickets:

39:4-67 - Obstructing the passage of other vehicles

39:3-76.2f - Failure to wear seat equipment - responsibility of driver

Both tickets were deserved and the cop could have given me points for other tickets but decided to give me a break. My question is that since neither of these comes with points but Obstructing the passage of other vehicles is a moving violation, will either of these increase my insurance rates with Allstate?

Everything I can find online about your type of situation (with many of the notes written by lawyers) is "only your insurance company can answer that question".

But the overwhelming majority say your insurance will "probably not" be able to see it and "probably won't" increase your rates based on it.

Universally, the lawyers say "the officer cut you a huge break" and could've given you serious problems had they chosen to.

If you're given a worse ticket (improper turn, failure to signal, failure to maintain lane, failure to stop or yield, failure to keep right, or any other similar ticket), it's exactly your type of ticket that lawyers hope to get your ticket brought down to. But you were fortunate enough to get that golden ticket handed to you without having to pay for a lawyer!

I agree for sure I was given a huge break as I could have gotten a ticket for reckless driving too.

I called up Allstate and the lady I spoke to said she did not know any information about this and would need account information to transfer me to someone who would be able to answer my question. I was reluctant to give any information as I have heard that insurance companies often don't check records for months and don't want to bring it to their attention unless its needed.

That is exactly what I said when I called from a friend's phone saying this happened to a friend but I got no info without account information. I might try to call them again tomorrow in hopes of getting someone who can help me out with info without account info.

There is really no upside to calling your insurer. IF your rates are going to go up, I don't think calling them will not bring them down. IF they're not going to go up, why raise a red flag by asking them?

I know there is peace of mind in knowing, BUT is the risk of opening an issue you wish to keep closed worth the peace of mind?

NJ atty, not your atty. Any moving violation gets reported to insurance. License points have nothing to do with insurance. It might increase, might not, depends on how their algorithm handles that charge. If it does, the impact will probably be pretty minimal. It's a very minor ticket. I've gotten a similar one and GEICO didn't seem to care.

Don't waste your time calling insurance, their phone operators won't be able to tell you how their algorithm works. None of the big insurance players publicize anything about how their rates are calculated, it's just a black box.
