i’m 16 looking to move out around 19-20. Yes this is relatively early but it’s because of my parents. I won’t elaborate because this is a location specific sub.
I’ve done estimates via the internet so a lot of these are rounded up $5-10, or to the nearest whole number. Are these numbers correct? How am I gonna be able to move out?
I crunched some numbers, and realized that at the very highest i’d be spending $1,910 on utilities + food.
This is all on the assumption of minimum wage. Everything was fine until i found out about the taxes on income. Originally i was looking at $2,240 per month but after taxes it’s $1,680 :(.
edit: also why the heck is taxes so much?! that’s a lot of money to take!
This threw off everything. I did round up food to $300 a month because they said $150-300 is spent on average. I’m rounding up to assume any situations where there are more high end costs, or emergencies etc. All in all i’m rounding up stuff because i’d rather be over-prepared than under
For anyone with a 1 bedroom apartment, single, no kids or pets, is this how much you usually spend on average on things?
Rent: 1,200-1500. (I will most likely not be renting $1,500. I’m guessing $1,300 is the highest i’m willing to go. I don’t know any good places in south jersey to rent that aren’t at least $1,000. I’m looking at burlington/camden county right now.
Water: $90
Electric: $110
Internet: $50
Sewer: $70
Gas: $60
Without the quarterly sewer bill this all comes to $310. With rent this would be $1,910 monthly. How can I afford that? I haven’t even factored in a car! It feels hopeless. Are there a lot of good jobs above minimum wage?
i’m planning on saving up $4,000 before I move out
edit: thanks so much for everyone’s help thus far, feel free to add anything. I REALLY appreciate it cause i don’t really know anything about insurance or stuff. All the information seemed pretty overwhelming without help. Don’t know how to get a car though
edit 2: i should mention minimum wage is the worst case scenario, i’m not trying to get a minimum wage job
