Have not drove into the city in a long time, have they implemented that ridiculous extra fee if a resident of the great state of NJ drives in, lets say Christmas Day? Or is it only the toll fee? TIA

thank you!
Going from NJ to NY you pay toll .. but you can avoid toll when driving back in NJ if you take holland tunnel ..
The tolls are very expensive and have been for a long time. Definitely recommend looking into nj transit. A round trip train ticket is cheaper than the tolls and you save on gas and parking costs in the city. It also saves you from spending time looking for parking spots and risking damage to your car.
However, if you are visiting people deep in queens or brooklyn, driving may be significantly faster than taking nj transit in to manhattan and then taking the subway out to the edges of those boroughs. I would refer to google maps for your case. If you are just going into manhattan it will usually be just as fast if not faster to take the trains and you get the benefit of not shackling yourself down with a car in manhattan.
Happy travels and whatever you do, good luck with the christmas day nyc traffic!
It is only slightly cheaper, but only if you are traveling alone. Transit takes much longer, for most NJ residents is very inconvenient, it could easily get far more expensive if they have to drive to public transit location and pay for parking on Jersey side as well. Public transit often runs with delays and problems, especially if they are running on holiday schedule.
This has not been my experience at all but maybe thats just where I live in central jersey on the northeast corridor. Nj transit is a godsend for how much cheaper, easier, faster, and more efficient it is. Also having a car in nyc is an awful idea and I love being able to go wherever I want without needing to find and pay for expensive parking. Even if I cant just get dropped off on the nj side its still way easier and cheaper to park on the nj side. Avoid bring a car to manhattan at all costs lmao
thank you, hence my thought about driving(I did 3 years ago and all went without a hitch)
Traffic patterns are bit different now and there is whole lot more bicycles and electric scooters on the road so watch out when you make turns and change lanes. Also, not they have speed cameras that run 24/7 so try not to drive over 29mph while in Manhattan in order to avoid $50 ticket in the mail.
no worries there!
thank you. The one which resonated with me most is damage to vehicle (just picked up my new car).
thanks for other thoughts, I would be using inside parking and may do NJ transit, primary reason for driving was bringing in some gifts!

Congestion pricing has not been implemented yet
It's just the usual bridge/tunnel tolls
