Take the title to the DMV with proof of insurance and get the truck registered in your name, pay sales tax, and they'll give you the plates on the spot. Then you should have a few weeks to get it inspected.

Yup, at the time you register the truck. You give them the title and fill out a form, declare the price of the truck, and you'll pay sales tax, get the new title in your name, and your license plates.
