The tricky part is even with anomalies it is still safer than sleepy, texting drivers. But it should require driver takeover in situations it’s poor at.

That’s a pretty lame excuse to make for how unsafe it is. Sleepy texting drivers does not legitimize introducing something new that is known to be unsafe on the road.
