Was it a rifle? Or was it a shotgun, which is also a long gun.

cops were shot, right? Did they have bullets inside of them expelled from cartridges or were they full of buckshot or have a huge hole blown through them by a deer slug expelled from a shell? It's not like the ammo is interchangeable between the two.....

If you know what ammo someone is shot with you know what type of weapon they were shot with.

If it’s a slug they may not know immediately. It could have passed through them the wounds would be difficult to tell from a high caliber rifle.
