It's been a full 23 days.

We're heading for some kind of record.

And we'll get there as long as the FBI sits on it's hands.

Just shootings? I am sure it is a lot more than that. We have had 33 mass shootings.

Mass is the part I wasn't really focused on my bad. Yeah probably a lot more. Actually 2 nights ago down my street there was a double homicide. And that shit never happens here.

And yet any serious attempt at proper gun control is unanimously rejected by both sides. America is so fucked.

Semi-Automatic ≠ Automatic

I find myself questioning whether it’s worthwhile even engaging in gun control threads any more. If the horrors of Sandy Hook and Uvalde didn’t change peoples minds nothing anyone can say is going to change opinions.

We all know the script - the pro gun people will turn up in the thread with tedious inevitability with all the usual talking points and strawmen to knock down, upvoting each other and downvoting anyone who disagrees.

And nothing changes. And then tomorrow or next week there’s another dead or injured kid or another mass shooting and the ‘debate’ begins anew …

Terminology gets weird there. Sometimes the term automatic is used to refer to any selfloading firearm, including semiautomatics. Things get even weirder once you start throwing L.A.W.S. and revolvers into it.

Automatic = A firearm that loads itself after each shot, selfloading usually being the preferable term.

Semi Automatic = A firearm that shoots once per pull of the trigger

Fully Automatic = A firearm that shoots repeatedly while the trigger is held. Often referred to as just automatic today resulting in lots of confusion.

As to which one the comment above is referring to, your guess is as good as mine.
