It definitely seems like there was something horrible of that sort going on, maybe not physical but definitely some sort of emotional thing, probably Nathaniel weaponised it for control over the poor child.

They’re master manipulators. I wouldn’t put anything past them. I’m sure they would encourage feelings of attachment
