Ok everyone - hear me out. What if the person is travelling and has no access to the bank to get a new card, has no cash and no friends in city. Now how about a Thanksgiving miracle? ☺️

You call the credit card company, the company contacts the person.

I’ve actually gone through this before… I know it sounds cruel, but the best thing to do is cut the card up and throw it away. I actually went so far as to call the credit card company and offer to either hold the card or drop it off at the bank… A bank that issued the card… And the customer service person basically said “thanks but no thanks“.

So I applaud your attitude, but this is just one of those things unfortunately.

You're better off shredding the card. Most likely the card has been reported lost.

The credit card company and/or their bank will help them out by phone. They deal with this all the time.

I'm a little surprised they wouldn't shred it for you.

My guess, and it is only a guess, would be that as soon as you give them the card number it’s immediately canceled.
