I don’t know, I can live a whole year with that much money . I literally make 20, 000 a year . People with the privilege of more say these things and forget very poor people still live here. That much savings and even a minimum wage job can get you by .

No doubt it can be done, but ya’ll are scarping by. Hell I make six figures and I feel like I’m scraping by. It’s no way to live, sharing an apt with with like 3 roommates, skipping meals, not being able to go out on weekends. Let’s not kid ourselves, if you don’t make decent money already you shouldn’t drop everything and move to nyc just cause. It’s not worth it. Come here for vacation instead, but let’s not glamorize the working 3 jobs just to pay rent and eat instant ramen every day lifestyle.

It isn’t glamorous but if already here for a long time , it is hard to get out . You can get food at food pantries , food stamps , service ets and share a room with many people of find an illegal SRO. To me 6 figures sounds wonderful . I could afford my one place then but it is because I am used to struggling . In the scheme of things it that much in this city .

Yea I got the sense that OP wanted to live the sex in the city life style or the glamorized YouTube influencer life that you see plastered all over social media. I wouldn’t recommend anybody move to nyc just to scrape by when they can live comfortably wherever they were from originally. Nyc has its benefits, but nothing worth living under the poverty line for.

Do you ever plan on having a family because you’re gonna need more than 20 grand a year your kid alone will probably cost that

A minimum wage job cannot support you or pay the rent on any apartment in NYC. You'll need to find roommates, and even that will be difficult on a shoe string budget.

Plenty of us live on it . It is called being in poverty.

I don't know if that is the path we want 21 year olds on.

It is all over the country though. Minimum wage is 7 dollar and rents are too high for that. There you have to pay for a car. As long as jobs don’t pay enough and the cost of living is so high, people will be poor everywhere . It is easy to survive with 25000 in savings and any job. Middle class people say you can’t but are used to more comforts . You just rent a room and not live in trendy neighborhoods. North Brooklyn and Manhattan are far more expensive that most of the city .

My only suggestion is to move to NYC in Spring so you can still enjoy life

You can get your MMC and be a deckhand on a tugboat. Pay is good but the hours are long, and the work isn't easy.

Your best bet is probably join a homeless shelter and hope for an eventual cheap government housing given to you

People come here from all over the world with less than that and survive. Plenty of jobs in restaurants, construction if you have the skills. Not the glamourous life depends on what you are trying to get away from.
I would rent a room in sunset park or queens to get started.

Yes , but I don’t know if you have the experience to get one at your age unless you’re some kind of coding guru.
-
For a 1br probably no less than 2k, but maybe a pinch less. At your age, the neighborhoods I’d want to be in would be pushing 2500
-
This all depends on your personality. Being 19 means you can’t go to many bars or clubs where you want to do this so you have to get creative.
-
What is great? Do you mean all on apps? Yes.
-
The more, the better.
Bonus: With no job, and if you’re not a student, it’s going to be tough to have someone want to be your roommate / get a building to rent to you. There are plenty of jobs here to get you started, but please look into the actual costs of things here before you hop on a plane to have your spiritual awakening.

Dont come here. You are not going to have a good time with only $25k savings and no job lined up.
