Been here since August and have seen wild stuff on multiple lines all in different areas of the city. I’d say avoid it late nights and you’ll be okay. We’ve only seen 2 machete wielding guys, one guy breaking open the doors while we were moving, and one count of a dude who shit himself and passed out.

99999 out of 100000 times nothing will happen on the subway and almost nothing will happen on the bus because the driver can call the cops in a heart beat. NYC is a safe city overall and shit will go down ONLY if you seek it.

If you are THAT paranoid, my tips are; check when your train is due to avoid staying in stations too long. Board the first car or the conductors car which is the middle of the train. If you see no people in the car you’re about to board, move to the next one over. Don’t make eye contact or stare at people, someone could take it the wrong way. And if you have headphones on, keep them at a volume where you can still hear your surroundings.

If you’re still paranoid past that point, well all I can say is moving to a new city on your own is scary enough. Otherwise stay close to home and make a living there.

I would avoid lex and 125th. Been there 2 times in 4 years and both times people were passed out (nodding out from heroin) in the middle of the sidewalk and street and people just walked over them as its such a common occurrence. Plus know a doctor who commuted through there. After his second mugging he is moving out of NY.

Most other stations I have gone too have been fine. Just the occasional person with severe mental illness who if left alone usually leave people alone.

I take the BDFM and ACE lines a lot, but every time I get on/off downtown I avoid the W 4th st stop like the plague. It's truly awful.

Surrounding stops like 14th street are way better, so even if it's a longer walk I'll get on/off there.

I don't think you can call out specific trains, it's more the stops. I'd guess the most dangerous stops are in the most dangerous parts of town (nothing surprising).

The ACE line is the longest in the city and thus the most preferred by homeless people looking for a train to sleep on.

Think that’s know as the hipster capital of the world stop. A hipster there told me only old people use iPhones, cool kids use a paper map and a compass.
