in case the title wasn’t clear, I never received a deposit. i currently have -$2,000 in my bank account. i neither spent nor received $2,000.
This is happening in Arizona, USA. I worked here as a full-time, salaried employee for almost a year. The company permanently closed on Friday with 0 notice to our patients or employees and final paychecks due on the 15th.
I typically receive my paychecks via direct deposit around 3-6am. From what I understand, this issue comes from using a payday lender, but I can’t recall ever singing up or consenting to that. Everything I can find online says that a payday lender is something individuals sign up for, but if I’m receiving money that way, it’s because it’s how my company pays us…I’m 99% sure i haven’t done anything to cause this issue.
My employer told us they ran out of money and “don’t know if they’ll be able to pay people.” Whatever, I have the right to my earned wages and I wasn’t stressed about it. But about an hour ago I received an alert that I had negative $2,000 in my bank account with a pending charge from “ACH DEBIT [Company Name].”
I’m not even sure what to ask here. How can I understand what is happening here? Are there immediate steps I can take?
UPDATE: Message I received from my bank and I’m still confused tbh.
“Since the transaction is already pending, only the merchant can cancel it or refund it.
If they are unable or unwilling to do that then we can file a dispute. The dispute can be filed once the item posts to your account. This typically takes place overnight (excluding weekends and holidays).
Once the transaction(s) fully posts, you can definitely reach back out to us for assistance. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.”
PLS READ THIS UPDATE yes I am the person talking about this on TikTok. The CEO reached out to me directly and I am going to pick up my check from the clawback today. I am still owed my final wages and will be reporting it to the department of labor.
