A girl recently hit our house with her car (left it in neutral on a hill and it rolled into our house) while we were not home. It left some damaged siding on the outside, several cracks in the drywall and base boards inside of our home, and destroyed a bush in our yard. Police came, created an accident report, when we got home we immediately called our home insurance company, they investigated and got us a claim payout for the damage(which has already processed), the subrogation process to the person whose crashed car has started. We have yet to have a contractor come out to the house to fully assess and begin to fix the damages.

Today the parents of the girl approached me outside the home pretty much begging me to not go through insurance as it would “ruin” them. They were offering to pay more than the claims process in a cashiers check, asking if I could undo the claims process, they were telling me that it could be done.

I felt really uncomfortable with the whole interaction, but they are neighbors and to be honest I’m nervous about there reaction to me only wanting to go through insurance.

Any advice about how I should handle this situation? I am not good with confrontation!
