So I'm working for a university as system admin for 55k on a 6 month probation period with a few months left. Haven't had much to do since I've been here. The team is also really siloed and some people on other teams haven't talked to me since I've been here. Idk if there's much promotion chance either since I'd have to wait for someone to leave to get promoted. However, benefits are good: pension, Healthcare, days off, and even free schooling. But, since I have CCNA, Microsoft certs, and Comptia, idk if I would even need school? My last remote contract job wouldn't even let us take a day off without pay.
Rent is also really high in the area around 1500. My family keeps telling me to stay because the private sector is risky with the economy the way it is. And i would have to cancel my lease, renew registration, etc. My current role doesnt seem too trustworthy either with the probation period. They said your pretty much guaranteed to get hired on unless you do something crazy but idk if i believe them or not.
I have already had some recruiters reach out for roles that pay 70 to 80k although I would have to move. However, The work environment could also involve longer hours, travelling, etc, which has made me reluctant to take some of these jobs though. Also, the fear of getting laid off once if I take the role.
I could also move back in with family and get a remote job. But most of the remote jobs I get from recruiters are bs help desk jobs that pay 40 to 45k and their 6 month contract to hire. So, would you stay in my situation or apply for other jobs?
