Man, when I lived closer to that area I would sit at those outside tables on the left side of the building under the tree for hours on a nice fall morning. Great spot. Great mems, I need to go back.

Years ago my wife and I lived at 11th and Pine. This morning we went down to the stadium to buy some Phllies gear and passed this spot on the way home. I even mentioned "Oh wow Greenstreet looks nice"

Love this pic. Except for the notorious No Turn On Red signs. Isn't it time to do away with them?

Philly really looks delightful. Y’all don’t realize how good you have it until you’re stuck in suburban FL hell. I’m not jealous at all.

I just went to LA for the first time the other week and coming back here really made me appreciate Philly’s gorgeous and truly urban architecture. Other cities just don’t all do the bricks the way we do

I worked at toast for a few months when I lived in Philly. 99% sure it's a money laundering front and the owner is like an international arms dealer. Also the kitchen manager at the time was/is a psycho coke head (fuck you Mike)

Oh man, this photo is a dagger to the feels. Live in California now, but used to live at 1105 Spruce (that was my door to the left), and not a single day goes by that I don't miss it. Greenstreet was pretty much a daily occurrence for me.

Is this your photo, OP? Or just one you found? It's really beautiful.

Yes!! If you just want an espresso, their Ethiopia is my favorite in the city.

Green street is one of those absolutely tiny cafes that gives Philly just a hint of European flavor. Same with some minuscule corner bars and jam packed book stores. Sure you can find such things in any city but the absurd smallness of many of our older commercial spaces is all charm and can be transporting when down right

Oh I think it was the the place that used to be on 11th and pine. It had a similar window set up where you can see pretty much the entire store from the outside.

I'm so glad Greenstreet survived the pandemic. They have great coffee!

And I'm going to second the person who mentioned Honey Bee deli. I've gone there for lunch, and the hoagies are delicious.

Agreed, it's super important to spread the word! I applied and got denied (they said my sidewalk is too narrow), but if I can't have a street tree, everyone else should get one!

I'm in the early stages of moving from NYC to South Philly. I am utterly blown away by how clean and well kept everything is in South Philly compared to what I am used to. I feel like I am in Canada or Europe. I didn't think such clean and well cared for urban neighborhoods still existed in the US. You can walk from Passyunk to Rittenhouse Square and not see hardly any graffiti and smell no urine at all.

Philadelphia completely underrated, it is a national treasure.

squee_bastard t1_iu7ctzn wrote

My old block, i used to get coffee there (different name/owners) in early 2000s when I lived across the street. Then one Saturday night a drunk driver crashed into the building and demolished the front facade. I think that was the same year the building catty corner to this burned down. One of the nicest blocks i lived on during my time in Philly but boy was it unlucky.

cuberhino t1_iu7h0io wrote

This is the first time I’ve ever heard someone call south Philly clean. Every part of this area except maybe the bougie parts of Passyunk is covered in street trash and grime. Mainly imo bc there are no public trash cans so everyone just throws their stuff on the ground.

this_shit t1_iu8m190 wrote

Did you apply through the city, or through tree tenders? The way it seems to work is if you apply through the city they will automatically deny you for literally any reason. I have multiple friends who were rejected by the city, but later got one through tree tenders.

If you were rejected by tree tenders but still want a tree... I know an arborist who will cut a tree pit and plant one for you, but it's not free.
